International English Language Competition KGL

International English Language Competition KGL

The KGL Olympiad is an international English language competition with the main goal of encouraging students to learn English andimproving their general language knowledge. This competition is organized under the supervision of The International Testing Authority in England and Ireland. So far, 70 countries from around the world have joined the KGL International Community, and Erdos Institute has been the exclusive representative of Iran for these competitions since 2020. Now, Kheradbonyan Language Learning Co. is also supporting its students as the official representative in this language Olympiad. All students aged 7 to 17 who possess an acceptable level of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills can participate in this competition. Usually, the first stage of this competition is held in the month of January or February each year. The second stage takes place in March, and the third stage is probably in June. The syllabus of KGL is based on commonly used language books in European countries (CEFR). The aim of these competitions is to evaluate students' general language skills, so any general language teaching materials can be used as appropriate sources. The competition questions are designed at 5 levels, from PRE A1 to B2, which generally cover the Intermediate to Advanced levels.

Benefits of participating in the KGL Olympiad:

-KGL is a highly standardized and engaging competition that motivates students worldwide to improve their English language skills as a second language.

-KGL exams meet the highest quality and international standards and can serve as a suitable benchmark for preparing students for future evaluations they may need.

-Top performers in each level receive participation certificates and trophies, and the finalists are invited to attend the final competition in a European country in May or June. All expenses for a three-day stay and participation in the final stage of the competition are covered by the KGL Scientific Committee.

-One excellent advantage of this competition is its low participation cost. Students only need to pay for the first stage, and participation in the second and final stages is free of charge.

To participate in the KGL competition, participants must meet the following age criteria:

-Participants born between January 2011 and January 2015, with a maximum age of 11, can participate at the PRE A1 level.

-Participants born between January 2010 and January 2011, with a maximum age of 12, can participate at the A1 level.

-Participants born between January 2008 and January 2010, with a maximum age of 14, can participate at the A2 level.

-Participants born between January 2007 and January 2008, with a maximum age of 15, can participate at the B1 level.

-Participants born between January 2005 and January 2007, with a maximum age of 17, can participate at the B2 level.

Participants must compete in the level corresponding to their age. For example, if a student participates in the A1 level in the first stage

this year and advances to the second stage, they must register for the higher level, which is A2, next year. However, if they don't pass the

first stage this year, they can register again at the same level next year. The number of questions for the PRE A1 level is 35, and the response

time is 45 minutes. For levels A1 to B2, there are 40 questions, and the response time is 60 minutes. The questions do not have negative

scoring. This competition has three stages, with the first and second stages taking place in Iran and the third stage in a European country. It

should be noted that students at the PREA1 level, based on their age, do not have the third stage, so their exams are only held in Iran. The

first stage of the competition includes Listening and Reading questions. In the second stage, writing questions are added to the competition.

However, an important point is that in the second stage, first the Listening and Reading sections of each participant are evaluated, and if they

achieve a sufficient score in these sections, their Writing section is then evaluated, and the total score is announced, indicating which students

will proceed to the final stage. The third stage of the competition will include all four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The

results of the first stage will be announced approximately 20 days after the competition. The KGL competition committee selects a number of

participants from Iran each year for the second stage and ultimately the global stage, which will be determined at the time of announcing the

results. However, for every 250 participants from Iran, at least one person will qualify for the global stage. Students at the PREA1 level do

not have the global stage, and every year the top three selected participants from the second stage in this level will receive gifts from the

Erdos Institute. The results of each stage will be announced on the official website of the Erdos Institute. According to the main competition

committee, only the names of the top performers in each level will be announced in the first and second stages, and no other information will

be given.

Top Performers and Prizes:

-All participants in the first stage will receive a certificate of participation and an appreciation plaque.

-All participants in the second stage will receive a certificate of participation and an appreciation plaque, and the first to third place winners in each level will also receive medals and valuable prizes.

-The first to third place winners in the final stage will receive medals, appreciation plaques, and cash prizes from the competition committee.

-Additionally, each year the participant with the best overall result in the first to third stages will be awarded a scholarship for schools in England and a $1,000 prize.

The registration fee for the first stage is approximately 15 euros, which is announced every year in late December based on the euro

exchange rate. The second and third stages of the competition are free.
